Successes and challenges in statewide brain injury service development: a process synopsis and project update
The Adult Brain Injury Rehabilitation Health Service Plan 2016-2026 presents an opportunity to enhance the brain injury rehabilitation service system for the benefit of people living with brain injury, their carers and families. However, implementing change and service improvement is complex and challenging. Collaboration is key to the statewide approach and is underpinned by clinical leadership from the Acquired Brain Injury, Clinical Advisory Network (ABI-CAN) and engagement with consumers, clinicians, health service executives and planners. The ABI SCI Connect project team has used the following strategies to drive implementation:
– baseline assessment of services
– prioritisation and rationalisation of activity
– multimodal communications
– workshop and forum facilitation
– surveying of clinicians
– establishment of working groups
– commencement of development of service profile, clinical protocols and guidelines
Findings from work to date, progress against objectives and plans for the future will be presented.
